Ozonators, or ozone generators, can reduce the amount of chlorine or bromine you need to pour into your hot tub from 60 – 90%. This not only reduces the probability of eye and skin irritation, but also reduces the cost of maintaining your hot tub. In addition to this, they also keep the water free from microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, mildew, molds, and yeasts.
The Delzone MCD-50 utilizes a corona discharge electrode technology to elevate ozone levels in your hot tub. The machine’s output is 50 mg/hour. Using an electronic chip instead of the usual ultraviolet lamp, less energy is needed. Without a lamp, neither is there a need for a ballast and starter. The solid state electronic chip also eliminates voltage spikes that can trip the GFCI breaker and disrupt the electronics of the hot tub.
The corona discharge components of the ozone generator are replaceable, so that you do not have to purchase a whole new set when they eventually wear out. However, you can rest assured that this will take quite a long time as the components are expected to last for at least 5 five years, even when running 24 hours a day. Actually, you only need to run it for 3 hours in a 12-hour period to reduce your chlorine use to 0.5 ppm, or bromine to 1.5 ppm, so you can even expect the corona discharge components to last beyond five years.
