Hot Tub Pump
Make Your Hot Tub Pump Last

A hot tub pump is responsible for keeping the water moving while you enjoy the healthy benefits of hydrotherapy. A hot tub pump works by drawing water from the hot tub and then pumping it through the filter, heater and then back again in the hot tub through the jets. Most hot tub pumps have a leaf trap or a strainer pot that is used to catch small debris that made it through hot tub’s main drain. Trapping these debris and dirt, ease the hot tub’s burden that might be placed on the filter making it even more effective in catching tiny contaminants in the water.
Hot tub pumps mostly are self-priming centrifugal pumps. These types of pumps have a pump housing that is also know as a vacuum chamber. The vacuum chamber of the hot tub pump is filled with water to create a vacuum that results in pumping the water out into the hot tub. Self-priming hot tub pumps are simple and dependable. A hot tub pump is basically comprised of two components: the wet end with the devices that moves the water called the impeller and the dry end which the electric motor is located which then turns the impeller.
Overtime, hot tub pumps break down and may not function well. For example, if your hot tub’s water flow is low or has very little pressure, there may be a few reasons why. The water level of the hot tub could be too low and unable to pass through the pump. If this is the case, just add a bit more water to the tub. If the water pressure is still low, it is likely that the intakes could be blocked by something. Start by feeling around for any loose toys or piece of clothing that may block the intakes. If you found nothing and the water level is okay, then the problem probably lies within the tub filter. To check, remove the filter housing, rinse the filter thoroughly and ensure that water pass through without any difficulty before placing it back and starting the pump again.
For more complex problems or in the event of your hot tub pump breaking down completely, one could easily replace individual parts of the water pump. But if your hot tub pump is a bit older, it is encouraged to replace the whole hot tub pump. To avoid accidents, it is best to seek professional help if your hot tub problems are more critical.
To keep your hot tub pump in great working condition, it is best to get your hot tub’s water circulating. Turning on your hot tub a few hours each day not only keeps your hot tub clean but it also ensures proper hot tub pump circulation. If you think it’s too much work for you, think again. Just a few touches of a button and you can program your hot tub’s system to automatically turn on the pump for specific amount of time everyday so that your hot tub water can be thoroughly filtered.
